About Sharon Holbert

Art has followed me through every season of my life. I grew up in Hendersonville, North Carolina, where my late grandmother, Josephine Kuykendall, constantly encouraged me to create and to notice the beauty in things made by hand. Clay was my first love—I spent years as a full-time potter with a family studio, selling work at shows and to galleries, exploring texture with leaves, lace, and other found objects pressed into the surface of the clay. During those years I was also raising my two children and homeschooling them, building a creative life around family.

Life took me down many roads after that. I’ve been a gallery owner, florist, hairstylist, small-town shopkeeper, caregiver, and even an 18-wheeler truck driver. I’ve walked through hard seasons and big reinventions, but creativity has always been the thread that pulls everything together. In the middle of all those seasons I’ve been a mom to two amazing kids—and now a Meemaw to two little grandsons who already love making art.

My late father, Marvin Holbert, was the one who kept reminding me that art was my true calling. He would point to my pottery on his shelves and my paintings on his walls and say, “Look at all this talent God gave you—you’re meant to be painting.” Returning fully to my art is my way of honoring him and the faith he had in me.

Today I create as Sharon Holbert Art: original paintings and prints inspired by color, light, and the quiet strength found in nature and in everyday people who keep going. Through The Purple Picket I share that journey with you—pieces of my story, my mountains, my flowers, my faith, and the beauty I see in a world that’s still full of hope.
